READ 622 Content Area Reading in the Secondary School
At the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, graduate students in Reading Education worked on creating thematic "alternative text collections" and five corresponding mini-lessons to invite adolescents to ponder literature. Using contemporary alternative texts (fiction, poetry, music, art, digital websites and video clips, comics, graphica, and non-fiction) centered around themes such as friendship, courage, identity, relationships, and hope for change, students created mini-lessons (interdisciplinary, language concept, leading short or long discussion, and media/new literacies).
